Rev Limiter Adjustment

Software that resets the engine's maximum rev limit while staying within its mechanical limits.

About the service

What is it and how does it work?

The rev limiter is a protective function that prevents the engine from exceeding a set maximum RPM. In the factory setting, this limit is often set with a wide safety margin. With a rev limiter adjustment, this value can be raised in line with the engine’s mechanical design or lowered as needed.

For track use, raising the rev limit slightly makes it easier to stay in the power band through gear changes. In addition, parameters such as the hard (cut) or soft character of the limiter and the rev limit that applies while the car is stationary can be adjusted as needed.

We don’t raise the rev limit as far as you like on every engine: a safe value is set taking into account the valvetrain, the crank and rod assembly, the turbo characteristics and the RPM at which the engine makes its power. We leave in place the protective strategies that limit RPM when the engine is cold, for the sake of engine health.

Benefits

What do you gain?

  • Stay in the power band longer on track
  • Safe limit values that suit the engine
  • Limit can be lowered when needed (e.g. new engine running-in period)
  • Stationary rev limit and limiter character adjustment

Process

How is it done?

  1. 01

    Step 01

Engine type, mechanical design and intended use are assessed.

  2. 02

    Step 02

The original software is backed up.

  3. 03

    Step 03

The rev limit and related parameters are set to safe values.

  4. 04

    Step 04

It is checked with a road test and datalog.

FAQ

Rev Limiter Adjustment — FAQ

The most frequently asked questions about this service, with short answers.

Have another question?Message us with your car’s make, model and engine.

Does raising the rev limit give more power?

Not always. On many turbo engines, power already starts to drop at high revs; raising the limit only gives more flexibility when shifting. We tell you whether the gain is worthwhile by looking at the engine’s power curve.

Can the rev limit be changed on a diesel engine?

Technically yes; but since diesel engines make their power at low revs, the benefit of raising it is limited. On diesels, adjustments are more often made to the stationary rev limit or for specific use cases.
