About the service

What is it and how does it work?

Fault codes (DTCs) are codes the ECU stores when it detects a problem in a system, and they often come with a warning light. When a system is deliberately removed, replaced or not used in a project, the related fault code keeps coming back; the warning light stays on and in some cases the car reduces power.

In fault code disabling, only the specified codes are disabled in the ECU software; all other fault monitoring keeps working. That way, the ECU will still warn you if a genuine fault occurs.

Disabling a fault code is not a repair. Before the work, we identify the cause of the code with diagnostics; we don’t do this to hide a genuine fault that affects engine health. Faults in safety systems such as airbags, ABS and ESP should not be disabled — they should be repaired.

Benefits

What do you gain?

  • Get rid of a permanently lit warning light
  • Removes power restrictions caused by a fault code
  • Only the selected codes are disabled; all other monitoring keeps working
  • A clean, trouble-free ECU on project cars

Process

How is it done?

  1. 01

    Step 01

All fault memory entries are read with diagnostics and their causes identified.

  2. 02

    Step 02

We clearly explain which codes can be disabled and which faults need repairing.

  3. 03

    Step 03

The original software is backed up; the selected codes are disabled in the software.

  4. 04

    Step 04

The fault memory is cleared, and a road test confirms that the codes do not reappear.

Fault Code Disabling — FAQ

The most frequently asked questions about this service, with short answers.

Have another question?Message us with your car’s make, model and engine.

Can you disable any fault code?

Technically, many codes can be disabled; however, we don’t disable codes that indicate a real fault and affect the engine or driving safety. We find the cause first and, if a repair is needed, we tell you.

What is the difference between clearing the fault memory and disabling a code?

Clearing the fault memory is temporary; if the problem persists, the code soon comes back. Disabling a code is permanent, because it switches off the relevant monitoring in the software.
